We survived the winding roads, the crazy taxi driver and the surprising warmth of the desert. Instead of 'missing' our 2 month annive
rsary, we enjoyed it in the company of a new friend and 'older' friends in the middle of seemingly nowhere. We ended up staying in Zagora at a hotel and travelling to the small town that our teacher friend lived and worked in. Things are different and very
minimal down there. Not much to do and it shows in the colors of the surroundings - everything is brown - the mountains, the houses, and very little grass but lantana grows in the heat. We took a bus and it ended up taking us 10 hours to get to Ouarzazate and then 3 in a taxi driving on the side of mountains that whole time to arrive in Zagora - basically the entrance to the desert.
Our trip involved actually coming from one side of the mountains and ending up on the other but not driving through the valley but r
ight over top and around. It was a little scary at times and we sought solitude in snickers bars and oranges. Before we headed home we were served the biggest couscous platter we all had ever seen and that's what filled our bellies till at last we arrived in Agadir at 2:30 in the morning on monday. By the way - there's a short video of moroccans singing in the souk - revolting because they are unemployed - not much to see but there's singing - check below - way below.
