moroccan hollywood

This weekend brings some excitement - we are all, besides george, heading south of Ouarzazate. The cool thing about Ouarzazate is the city at one point filmed a few American films there - like Sahara, oh i don't know, lots of others and the government wanted to make that city seriously a small hollywood but the progress is so slow, moroccans see it more as a ghost town then a booming LA or something. It is though, the first city that announces the Sahara Desert and we are heading into that dry, cold area this weekend. We are going to visit a moroccan guy that teaches english down there - he's quite lonely and we want to just hang out with him for awhile. Its quite the trek though - we take the night bus (about 10 hours) to Ouarzazate and then from there a 3 hour taxi ride - 6 or maybe 7 people crammed into a small mercedes - it will be another adventure. And unfortunately we will only be there for 2 nights and one full day before taking the trek back to Agadir. We'll take pics though - its a different life down there. The other main excitement is the school. It is a super slow process to get a school started in Morocco. This project has taken oh probably two years so holding back the opening for a couple months is nothing to the entire length. We are close though. The walls are up, the doors are in, the bathrooms are all ready to go, we have a receptionist who is absolutely wonderful, we are geting the desks and stuff hopefully before the week is done and now the big thing is making sure it is ok to go ahead - the health inspector came in and its good but we have to wait for the fire guys to come and then the minister of education. After that, we will hopefully be able to hold classes. We have handed out the flyers, gotten many calls and walk-ins, have about 10 or maybe more applications and deposits in and hope that this increases. We are kind of holding back now until March 5th - thats the hopeful day - because we are all heading to Ain Leuh for February 16th weekend and will assess the students before and after that weekend and then open relatively soon there after. SO that's the deal - I'm not teaching at the school yet but definitely working on opening that crazy school. I have though on a regular basis been teaching my koreans and my one moroccan - for the next couple weeks its just my moroccan because winter break is now - for 2 weeks - so my korean parents are overwhelmed enough with their children at home but things are humming with English. Life has been good though -we have many stories to tell already and will only go through more so thanks everyone for getting us here and hopefully getting us home as well. This week I was craving sausage, real farmer sausage - so put it on the grill, oh yeah, and dust was thinking of the Pita Pit - mmmmm.
