So we've been busy - guess that shows as a few days have gone by without a post. Dustin finished his school on the 25th - this took a bit of work - finishing up with the exhibition on the 20th but then cleaning, cleaning, cleaning to get ready for the next quarter.
The SOP room has been converted to the School of Events Management - whatever that is, so we have been constrained to our little room. But a good thing is, is that we didn't have to change rooms. We thought we would since we are in the student area because of Dustin being a student last quarter but I guess it's too much work for them and us if we were to switch now. So that is great! We did have to clean our room pretty good though by the 26th so that Dust would get his room deposit back but that was done and since then have been busy doing tourist things.
My parents and Jenna have been out here since the 18th but due to end of the quarter tasks we couldn't really hang out with them until the 26th so we have been going everywhere since then. We were at the beach, snorkeling, went to South Point and the volcano (actually saw the lava - or a bit of it, which was exciting), headed to Hilo for their Saturday market and then saw a couple waterfalls and the botanical garden. So they and us have been busy. Right now they are on their way to the coffee farm, Heavenly Hawaiian, and hopefully will come back to do some more beaching.
Today Dustin and I are a bit busy starting up the next quarter. It begins on the 2nd when all the students arrive but there are some preparatory things to do before then. I'm just waiting on the laundry which desperately needed to be done and then heading to the ESL room to prepare binders and journals for our expected 20 students. Dustin is hanging out with the last of his SOP friends that are flying out today and then will be cleaning and preparing for skate stuff.
It's going to be a crazy quarter where we'll have to take one day at a time but I think we can do it. There will be a lot of korean students on campus and we're seeing them come in day by day. This quarter there is a korean dts - so that makes for a lot of koreans. Our ESL students are all koreans except for 4 so we're excited but really hoping as well that those 4 come for a bit extra flavor.
Anyways, got to head and prepare. But we'll hopefully be updating you a bit more as the days go on.
Oh, by the way, did I tell you what Dustin is doing this quarter? Its a bit still in the process, but he will be designing a skate website to promote the Tuesday night skate nights as well as get some more kona folks interested in what's going on at the base. He'll also be taking pictures of all the evening events that go on in the Ohana Court - mostly sports but doing that for the U of N website. So he'll be busy and we're excited for this volunteer work - as it's what he's interested in. So that's that. Pray for him to be focused and self-determined but I think it will be grande!!
